Hokies offer one of nation's best for 2012
Offers are coming far and wide for one of the top prospects in the mid-Atlantic. The Hokies are the latest school to pull the trigger on the 2012 lineman. He gives his take on Tech and more inside.
"I've got about 40 offers," Washington (D.C.) Friendship Collegiate Academy 2012 defensive tackle Eddie Goldman said. "I don't even know who my most recent offer is.
"It's a great opportunity to have the offers, but in the end I have to pick one school."
Despite so many scholarships, Goldman claims no school sticks out.
"I'm wide open to anyone who calls me."
In addition, the 6-foot-4, 307-pounder has yet to visit schools this fall.
"I've been to Penn State, Miami and West Virginia, but I haven't done any visits during the season," he said. "I have to talk to my coach about that and see if he can set some up soon.
"I can say every school I go to they want to show you the best, all of them do."
One of Goldman's most recent offers came from Virginia Tech and he went in-depth on the Hokies.
"I know they're No. 16 in the polls and I know some of the football players that have come out of Virginia Tech," he said. "But, I know nothing about their scheme except the fact they run a 4-3. That's the type of defense I want to play in."
Meanwhile, what is Goldman looking for in a school?
"The school that I choose has to have a good atmosphere," he said. "You know, you have to have a good head coach and that school has to be for me. They have to have my major. I'm looking at business. Whatever school fits me the best, I'm going there."
This season as a junior, Goldman helped Friendship Collegiate to a 7-4 record.
"I played well, I had a good year," he said. "This was my second year starting and I was more consistent than I was a year ago. I came off the ball better and was going hard every play.
"I played both ways. On offense, I only gave up one sack at right tackle. I did well there too, but I'm getting recruited for defensive tackle."
