Iverson’s Undeniable Talent Shines
Charles Wright Academy in Tacoma, Washington is a small school. Only a few hundred kids total. That in no way limits the potential of those who attend the school. They are some of the most accomplished kids you could ever hope to meet. In the Classroom and in every aspect of student life the Terriers are making their mark.
That success can be found among the student athletes too. And one of the biggest talents in the Pacific Northwest can be found at CWA. At 6'8" plus he is easy to pick out. And with his weight now approaching 250 pounds colleges are paying attention too.
His name is Beau Iverson and WashingtonPreps.com has been following his story since the past season. After interviewing his Head Coach Michael Finch we reviewed Beau's film. What we see is potential and great upside.
"He is a very good athlete," said Finch. "His size is undeniable and Collegiate guys will not have any problem building him into what they want."
Coach discussed Beau as being a terrific athlete who can do a lot of good things at the TE and DE spots and no doubt can move inside to Tackle at some point potentially. But Coach Finch wanted to stress something about this lanky young giant that might not be the first thing people will think of when they see a 6'8" athlete.
"He is very strong. In fact his strength is his best skill and with time he will fill out and add to it," said Finch seeing the potential for Iverson to be a 280 pound bruiser not to far down the road.
"No doubt he will project best as a Tackle on Offense and he can be a very good one at the next level", said Finch who knows a bit about College football as he played his Collegiate career at Harvard and has a depth of experience with the sport.
He starts as a DE and TE for the Terriers and was named First Team All League in both positions.
Impressed with his Coaches analysis and thoughts we reached out to Beau for a frank discussion about his plans for the season ahead.
"Right now I am training with my trainer Shane Simmons. We are working on core strength and speed and agility. That started up after our Basketball season finished and things are going great," said Beau who is a good basketball player but sees himself as a football player in college if all goes his way.
He has played football and basketball since grade school and says he likes them both. And if he gets taller Basketball is still an option.
"If I grow another inch or more I may have a better shot at Basketball but I pride myself on my flexibility and that is something that helps me compensate for how tall I am out there on the grid iron," he offered.
How would he critique his football skills?
"I would say overall my strength is my best asset but it comes from aggression and a lot experience and that allows me to be physical. The mind set and attitude is a big part of what drives me. There is no doubt a chip on my shoulder and I do feel I have something to prove," said Beau who had a chance to start and go head to head against Walker Williams of Tacoma Baptist last season who is now headed to Wisconsin on a Full Ride.
