August 24, 2012

It is now 6 days until the kick off of what many believe to be the biggest game in Washington State history for High School Football.  #8 in the Nation Bellevue of the Evergreen State is going to host #77 Euliss-Trinity of Texas.  And one paper this match up is a slug fest.

The rankings do not mean a whole lot other then to tell us that these are both really really good football teams.  And do not for a second expect that #8 National Rating to be an advantage for the Wolverines.  The Boys out of Trinity are going to be one of the biggest High School Teams we have ever seen.  Largely a Polynesian group the Trojans will look to overpower the Wolverines up front.  These guys are mean and nasty and there is no one regardless of rank who they can not roll over.

Look for the Trojans to get out on the field and if allowed do the Kamate version of The Haka.  That will fire up any team and it should be quite a site to see.  we are looking to a great match up!  Truly Great!  The Wolverines are loaded with speed and some size of their own and man we are looking for a real slug fest!

HERE IS WHAT OUR NETWORK HAD TO SAY ABOUT BELLEVUE:

No. 8 Bellevue, Washington

Coach: Butch Goncharoff
Last Season: 14-0, Washington Class 3A Champions. Ranked No. 8 nationally.
Key Player: Quarterbacks Jack Meggs or Timmy Haehl. There is a lot of optimism in Washington that either Meggs or Haehl, or both, can adequately fill in for the now-at- Oregon State Tyler Hasty because they are both more of a pure quarterback that each have the ability to run or pass whereas Hasty, who brought some blazing speed to the position, was limited in his ability to move the ball through the air. It is a major question mark for the team entering this year but with what is returning around either player -- and the system that has been in place at Bellevue -- should make it a smooth transition.
The offense returns seven starters from last year including a lot of talented options in the backfield. The shell-game that is the Bellevue Wing-T is an amazing offense to watch and with UCLA commitMyles Jack, two-star Rueben Mwehla, Ari Morales and 2014 standout Budda Baker all able to run the ball, plus two dual-threat quarterbacks, this could be as deadly a team as there has ever been at Bellevue. The offensive line returns four players that saw significant time last season and will be ready to fire off the ball and move this group towards a national title.

The defense returns eight starters including linebacker Sean Constantine. The group is not as heralded as the offensive unit but it will still be very solid. The group was relatively young in 2011 but still allowed less than two touchdowns per game. The loss of James Hasty will certainly be felt on this side of the ball but it should be able to overcome with numbers and experienced play.

It's not No. 1 because the quarterback position is unsettled and both trenches are a concern. The loss of Hasty at quarterback to combined with the loss of its best two offensive lineman, Jake Eldrenkamp (now at Washington) and two-star Micahel Kneip may be more hard to replace then the Wolverines want to admit.

The bottom line is most questions about the offensive and defensive lines will be immediately answered as the team will play host to Euless (Texas) Trinity to open the season. While Trinity may have limitations of its own, the issues for the Trojans are never up front on the offensive and defensive lines. The depth of Bellevue will be tested as well as the effectiveness of the Wing-T right from the gate. It is one of the few times that a top tier team from Washington would be favored over a top tier team from Texas and there is plenty on the line early.

Look for other studs like Darien Freeman (Montser DT), Reuben Mwehla (Idaho Commit), Marcus Griffin (JR Linemen), Myles Jack (20 offers-UCLA Commit) ,  Ari Morales (Out with Knee), Budda Baker (12 Offers-Junior Ath), Johnny Ngyuen (Senior RB who is a Difference Maker), Nick Santa (Senior Line-Yale-Ivy) and more to lead the Wolverines!  Look also for Linemen Morgan Richey and Shane Bowman as well who have had terrific preseasons.

And here is what we had to offer about Trinity:

100 countdown
No. 77 Euless Trinity, Texas

Coach: Steve Lineweaver
Last Season: 12-1, eliminated in Texas 5A-DI third round. Ranked No. 53 nationally.
Fast Fact: The large Polynesian population at the school has brought with it a Haka dance that has become an identity for the program. The Ka Mate Haka that Trinity performs has been featured on the CBS Evening News, Gatorade commercials and on EA Sports Madden NFL '11.
Key Player: Defensive linemen Sam Tevi and Gaius Vaenuku. Trinity is predicated on its size in the trenches and each of these two stands 6-feet-5 and checks in at 255 pounds. Tevi has already committed to Utah and Vaenuku could follow suit. The pair were impact players in 2011 and need to continue that, especially early in the season when the schedule for Trinity is absolutely brutal and the offense may not be as up to speed as the defense.

The Good: The size is still there. Off the bus, this may be one of the most physically imposing teams of any in the country most years and that will not change in 2012. There are eight players currently listed in the Rivals.com database from the program and the shortest player stands 6 feet and the lightest weighs in at 220-pounds. There are teams that line up 5-feet-9 players on the offense line and hope that technique will win the day, whereas this team is stacked with size, strength, speed and solid coaching. Winning the battle inside is almost a given for Trinity.

The Bad: The offense. Trinity has historically not produced FBS-level quarterbacks. The only player in the Rivals.com era to go onto the major college football from the position was Trevor Vittatoe in the Class of 2006. It rarely has elite-level receivers, either. The team will again be lacking in that department, even as Matt Hawkins returns in a fulltime capacity. The team will rely on a steady dose of power running, although it has to replace Joel Kimpela, who rushed for 2,000 yards, and reverse-action plays with bubble screens being worked into the mix. Teams with solid cornerbacks can play nine in the box on Trinity and make them earn yards.

The bottom line: Euless Trinity is always a threat for a state and national title no matter what is lost in the offseason. With a schedule that includes Bellevue (Wash.), Tulsa (Okla.) Union, and DeSoto (Texas) before the opening of district play, if this team can navigate an undefeated season, it would likely prove to be in the discussion for a national title. Much of that success or failure will be on the offense and the opening trip to Bellevue on national television will give a glimpse as to what this team truly has on that side of the ball.
