Please correct me if I'm wrong.

During a kickoff, if the receiver at any time, for any reason, steps into the end zone or onto the goal line, it is a touchback, right.

The reason I ask, is at a game last week, the receiver caught the ball at the 1, took a short step backwards, one foot obviously (to me) touching the goal line, the ran forward, getting to about the 18

If carried back by momentum, can the ball still be run out?

Consider yourself corrected. 3dSmile

It's only a touchback if the kick breaks the goal line.

Gotcha... the PLAYER can step into the end zone, as long as the BALL doesn't cross the line...

On a completely different topic - I've seen a lot of refs in the forums making fun of coaches who scream "they broke the huddle with 12". So, when DOES it become a foul when a team has too many players on the field? When they line up? When the ball is snapped, or something completely different?

so its not a touchback if momentum carries him into the end zone?

Breaking the huddle with 12 is an NCAA and NFL rule.

When a sub enters the field, he has to be given the opportunity to communicate with the replaced player. If he enters the huddle, the NFHS standard is to allow 3-5 seconds, for the repalced player to head off.

No, it's not.

If he catches the ball between the goal line and the 5 yardline and his momentum then carries him into the end zone, the ball comes back to the spot of the catch, if it becomes dead in the end zone by being tackled or going OOB.
