Agreed, the seattle schools showed their skills again this year. Congrats to Zillah as well, they had a great season!!
I don't know if anyone else caught this, but what a great show of sportsmanship at the end. The entire LC team and coaches walked the full length of the floor to shake hands with Widner from zillah (who was hurt earlier in the game). Very classy!!!

When referring to dominance in the tournament over the years, can we please replace "west side" teams with "private schools" in our conversation? Congrats to LC, but they should have to play O'dea or Seattle Prep instead of a small rural high school for the championship.

LC isn't some kind of school that just gets all the best players like O'Dea. They are just a Christian School. Just cuz they're parents want them to get a Christian education, they should automatically opt up to 3A? That's one of the most rediculous things I've heard.

I agree with you OSU, back when I used to hoop in the early 2000's, I was recruited by many 1a private schools. Just since it is in the smaller divisions does not mean the wiaa should turn a blind eye to the unfair advantages. Recruiting occurs often in the A class in Washington

Have to disagree with your pitiable rant osuboy91. You make alot of generalizations and accusations without much, if anything to support them. Why don't you list the actual salaries of some Private School Coaches along with the salaries of a few Public School Coaches to validate your argument. Of course there are wealthy families that send their children to private schools, just as there are wealthy kids going to public schools. I don't know how it breaks down percentage wise, do you? I personally know two sets of parents at the Lynden Christian School that work a couple of jobs to keep their kids enrolled there. Counting this year, going back 20 years, Public Schools have won 10 State Titles in 1A and Private Schools have won 10 State Titles. If you go back 30 years it's 20-10 Public over Private. If you go ack 40 years it's 28-12 Public over Private. If you go ack 50 years it's 38-12 Public over Private. I'm having difficulty seeing the unfair advantage Private Schools enjoy over Public Schools that you are inferring exists. As far as recruiting, it's done by Public and Private Schools, although not nearly as much as people think. And please spare me the notion that Public Schools can't do it. Surely you've heard of Rainier Beach H.S.

OSU91 - please name me ONE private school coach in a Washington State high school that makes more than Butch at Bellevue - let's see he made $59,000 for coaching football alone (not teaching) and that was over 5 years ago and in a public school.
Also, what parent doesn't send their kids to camps, AAU, etc. That's not reserved for private school parents.
Most parents would rather send their kids to a school that has a strong program that is supported by the community they live in. Personally I'm thinking of putting my parents in a senior housing center between Lynden and Squalicum so the kids can take their pick.

That's the most insane post I've ever heard of. They value a Christian education. Do you know any of the LC people personnally? There are just as many kids at Public Schools who are lots Wealthier then Christian School kids...BTW there is a difference between Christian and Private schools, I hope you realize that. Cascade had an incredible group of Athletes go through. Do you realize that lots of times kids from the small Christian schools get recruited to go to big public 3A and 4A school? You Seemed to fail to mention that. Have you heard of Lynden? They just won football and Basketball 2A state championship, and many of their main players are juniors who play both sports. They have a good shot at winning a combined 4 championships. Yet you fail to accuse them of recruiting. And obviously someone like LC didnt "recruit" any of those kids. In fact, LC both lost by 30 to Lynden and lost a kid, Jaremy Martin, whom they were expecting to be a big contributor, to Lynden. And yet you think they should be playing against 3A's? That's such a load. You are the ignorant one my friend. Is there some recruiting that has happened with private schools? Sure there is. But there has been recruiting by big schools of kids who go to those small Private's too. Research facts before you make accusations. These are schools who have 350 or less kids in their schools, just the same as a public school.

You want to know a guy who is making less money to coach at a private school? Rick Skeen coached at Burlington Edison for years. He took the Kings job this summer, a program who you might say has done some of the recruiting you've mentioned and is in a fairly rich part of Seattle, yet he is getting paid quite a bit less money to work there. There are many other cases. LC's old coach who's now at Mount Vernon is another example.

Jeremy Martin went to Lynden, then Lynden Christian, then Lynden - Is the 6/7/8 man for Lynden. Lynden Christian didn't seem to suffer from the loss.

What is amazing to me is how good the CCS coaches and administration are at recognizing hoop talent at such a young age. I mean the 2011 team had 12 kids that went to CCS from AT LEAST 7th grade and this year's team had 11 (the one kid who joined later averaged less than 2 points per game) -- a majority of the kids went to elementary school at CCS as well (I am sure they came to CCS srictly for the hoop program given that CCS had never even taken home a trophy until 2010). The football team has similar ratios. Reloading through recruiting? Give me an example...
As for coaches making big money at CCS -- that is laughable. What little many of them make (in all sports) goes right back into their program for equipment or maybe to help pay a small stipend to an assistant. All of them have outside jobs and work full-time. The stipend they get paid to coach would not even meet the minimum wage laws in the State of Washington if it was computed that way.

I am a little late to get on here, but I am sick of the private vs. public garbage on here. Lynden High (as has been mentioned) has done just fine, and the last time I checked they are a public school. But, so has Squally in basketball, and they are public. And the list could go on and on. Meridian in football has done fine the past decade or so.
Give up on CC, too. They have beat Meridian in both sports (basketball championship - 2010, and football 2011), but I would never say CC was better b/c they recruited or have some $1,000,000 coaching staff. Baloney! I wish Meridian had won, but CC was better in those games.
This discussion gets old. Great job L.C. and great job Lynden. Hopefully Scott Korthuis (mayor of Lynden) declares a basketball holiday on Friday here in Lynden!
BTW, I have a funny feeling that Lynden and LC will be back again next year. Not saying they will win the championship (as CP will be back again), but they will be right there again.

I have to agree the whining about private schools is getting real old. There may be occassional recruiting that occurs, but no more so than than some public schools. Many areas in the state are "open" districts meaning youth & parents may choose what school to attend. Most of the time the decision is based on academics, but with all things being equal of course a strong athletic program will have sway. As to the assumption that all private athletes have rich parents or coaches are paid better is just stereotype ignorance. When all else fails, look at the facts as to whether there is an unfair advantage. Other posters have already posted the facts of past winners, so I won't repeat them.
