He was on the top of our Best Of The Rest Watch list and we knew it was a matter of time. Still we feel the vibe from the boys when they are not sure where they are going next season and it creates a palpable tension.
We have been there and we have to empathize with them for all they face as they try and find that first option to move on and play college football. What they are trying for is tough and the odds get slimmer.
Still for those who persist and are patient there is a lot of hope. And that first offer might be right around the corner.
For Mason Stone today was the day.
The Mountlake Terrace Athlete/DB got a nice visit today followed by an offer from the Idaho Vandals.
"Coach Hunter (Torrey) came to my school and we talked today and he sat down with me," said Mason. "There are a lot of changes at Idaho and they want to offer me regardless of the fact they are looking for a new Head Coach. And it sounds like he will be staying at Idaho either way."
Where would he play at Idaho?
"Coach thinks I can bounce between Free Safety and Corner. So we will see what happens if I go up there."
Now things have been heating up for Stone.
"Portland State is really looking like they are close. Coach Burton came to the school and talked to me personally and we spoke about the fact I can probably fit into safety at their defensive scheme. So an offer could be close there," he added.
Other schools in recent contact include Montana, Arizona State, Washington, Eastern Washington, San Jose State, and some others.
Right now Mason is back in the gym prepping for Track. And football next season too because he is now 100% certain that he is moving on to play.
"That is a great feeling for sure after all this work," he said with relief.
Best of luck to Mason Stone. We have been covering him for 3 seasons now and he was the Camp MVP at the Northwest Elite Football Camp we assisted with during the off season.
