Bethel over Enumclaw in Thriller

TACOMA --Johnny DuRocher hit one of two free throws with 16 seconds left as the Bethel Braves (18-6) outlasted the Enumclaw Hornets (22-2), 45-44 in awild gamethat featured several lead changes and great defense, Thursday night at the University of Puget Sound.
With Bethel leading, 44-42 and under a minute left to play, Enumclaw guard Tony Binetti was fouled.Binetti sank both of his free throws to tie the game with 39 seconds left.

Bethel pushed the ball inside to DuRocher on their next trip down the floor. DuRocher was fouled in the lane with 16 seconds left. After missing the first free throw attempt, he nailed the second to give Bethel a 45-44 lead.

Then things got crazy in the final, frantic seconds.

Enumclaw worked the ball to Binetti, who was open for a3-point shot.The shotbounced off the rim and into the hands of Enumclaw guard Kyle Pierce. Attempting a putback, Pierce was fouled by Bethel center Nick Moore with one second left.
Pierce would go to the line shooting the two free throws that would decide the outcome of the game.

After a Bethel timeout, Pierce missed the first free throw. Enumclaw could now only hope for a tie as Bethel called another timeout. Pierce's second shot clanked off the rim and Moore pulled down the rebound as time expired. Bethel players and some students rushed the court after the buzzer rang.

DuRocher finished with a game-high 19 points, with Moore adding another 18. The Braves will play Saturday night at UPS for the West Central District's No. 1 seedfor the state tournament.

Bethel's opponent: The heavily-favored Lincoln Abes (22-2), who are coming off a 69-44 win over Battle Ground in the other district semifinal on Thursday night. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
