Josh Hawkinson Is having a terrific season on the hardwood!
The Shorewood Thunderbirds from North Seattle are having a fantastic run in the 3A ranks this season. The main reason why is theirmonster in the middle, Josh Hawkinson. The 6’9” 230 pound senior tower of power has his T-Birds sitting at 14-6 on their campaign. Shorewood has been ranked for much of the season.
The Hawk has beenflying around the Wesco Conference for 3 years now. The dead eye shooter was a 2nd team all-league selection following his stellar sophomore year. Last season Hawkinson used his deadly inside-outside skills to earn 1st team All-Wesco honors. Josh averaged 18 points and 10 glasses a game as a junior.
How is the big guy fairing this season?
Hawkinson currently leads the 3A Wesco in scoring at 20.5 points a ball game. Earlier this winter Josh was named the Everett Herald’s athlete of the week. That week he hit the game winning bucket in overtime to beat Oak Harbor. He splashed the twines for 34 points in the win. The same week, the Hawk torched Marysville-Getchell for 33 points.
Two weeks agohe put up 30 points for the T-Birds, in a convincing 69-58 win over Meadowdale.He thentossed in 22 points and snatched 15 rebounds in a 2-points loss to fellow league powerhouse, Mountlake Terrace. If the Shorewood hoop team is to make a trip to Tacoma for the state tournament, it will indeed have to ride their big man Josh Hawkinson.
Hawkinson has signed to play basketball for Washington State University next season. He hones his hardwood craft in the summer time playing for Basketball Travelers Hoopaholics AAU ball club.
