One of the things that can really help an athlete excel is to have a personal trainer or someone outside the immediate family work with them. But who do you go to and who can you trust to be there for your kids? We begin our look at this very important topic with one Seattle area program that has taken a new approach that is paying off.

Coach Scott Laigo is well known in the Football Coaching circles. The former O'Dea graduate and U of W Husky Assistant had a stint as the head man at Garfield High from 2002 to 2005. He went on to work in business and to become a certified SPARQ trainer.
Scott has always worked with athletes whenever he can and he really enjoys it. About three years ago he began to train some football players one on one. The results were excellent.
"What I found is that the athletes I was able to help made a smooth and very successful transition to the next level. That included some great successes from youth to High School and from High School to College," said Laigo.
That led him down a path of helping other athletes and Laigo now has formalized a training program and business known as Academic Sports Development.
"What we have done is add the entire Academic piece to our athletic training regimen. The fact is that without a solid school transcript your not going anywhere," he added.
Laigo and his staff work all one on one and they aid the athlete and their family with meeting the Core Course requirements and GPA requirements that are needed to meet NCAA guidelines.
Scott also shows athletes how to make it through the NCAA Clearing House among other things.
Lastly the training regimen makes room for character development.
"We are trying to help develop good people. That is something that schools are really interested in."
Brian Meyers, a well known Seattle Area tutor, joins Laigo as the go to guy on the academic piece. That has been a good fit indeed.
So with a Training session the athlete will get the whole package. Academics, Athletics, and Character Development are all included.
"The biggest thing is that we are a year long program, we are small and give our clients one on one attention. And we are here for the long haul."
